Find out how Deborah started this journey below...

A little bit leftfield for a coatings company, but when we were introduced to Deborah Curram, a powerlifting Reverend aiming to qualify for the UK Powerlifting Championships we couldn’t help but be in awe and felt determined to supporting her on her journey.

The Rev Deborah Curram, associate minister for Hayling Island, is an inspiring individual who combines her role as a vicar in the Church of England with her passion for powerlifting. Having only started lifting weights during the pandemic lockdown of 2021, she has already won multiple medals and accolades in powerlifting, and aims to set several British records in future competitions. Her achievements have made her an icon in the powerlifting community, and she has inspired many to take up the sport.

Deborah was inspired by how powerlifting has helped so many others

She trains alongside her 18 year-old son Huw, who has competed for Team GB in the World Powerlifting Championships a number of times.

“I used to take Huw to the gym and competitions from the age of 14 onwards,” Deborah said. “I’d often be sitting there in my dog collar, writing sermons on my computer while he was training. I could see that the world of powerlifting is a real community – I was amazed at how much powerlifters care for each other. I also got to hear some fascinating stories, including people for whom powerlifting was a route out of addiction"

First stop is the Welsh Nationals on the 30th April

Huw helps to train Deborah in the gym they’ve created in their garage. Now she’s hoping others will sponsor her as she continues to train and compete, setting her sights on lifting the total of 222.5kg required to qualify for the world championships in her weight and age category, across the three disciplines of squat, benchpress and deadlift.

Through sponsorship and determination Deborah’s journey will take her to competing in the Welsh Nationals on 30th April and the GPC European Championship on the 5th June this year.

We will be following Deborah on her journey and will bring you updates of her results. We look forward to seeing Deborah's continued success in powerlifting, and we hope that Alltimes Coatings' sponsorship will inspire other companies to support their local communities in similar ways.

If you want to join us in supporting Deborah with sponsorship, all donations will no doubt spur her on with her mission Crowdfunding to help support me in my powerlifting journey and to compete in the European Championships, representing Team GB on JustGiving
