The Problem

The 1,000m² metal roof at Poundland's Colchester store had reached the end of the service life of its existing coating system. Corrosion had begun to develop around the mid laps, cut edges and fixings, while sealant across the mid laps and skylight details had deteriorated.

The roof required refurbishment before deterioration progressed further and resulted in water ingress or costly sheet replacement.

Key issues included:

Existing coating system reaching the end of its lifespan.
Corrosion affecting cut edges and sheet overlaps.
Fixings becoming a potential source of leaks.
Failed sealant around mid laps and skylight details.
Risk of significant disruption if repairs were delayed.

Delivering the Solution

Working closely with All Seasons Industrial Roofing, our Contractor Support team carried out a detailed site inspection to understand the condition of the roof and the client's required service life.

Following the survey, we produced a comprehensive specification tailored specifically to the project. This ensured every area of corrosion, failed sealant and vulnerable roof detail was addressed before the protective coating system was applied.

Our technical guidance provided the contractor with a clear refurbishment sequence, ensuring the roof would achieve the required long-term performance while avoiding unnecessary replacement costs

The refurbishment began with a thorough pressure wash to remove dirt, salts and loose contamination before all corroded areas, fixings and overlaps were mechanically prepared.

Where required:

Damaged fixings and fillers were replaced.
Localised repairs were completed using Speed Patches.
Corroded steel was treated with Advantage Graphene Primer.
Cut edge corrosion, fixings and overlaps were reinforced using Advantage Adhesion Plus and Alltimes Sealant.
Mid laps and skylight details were fully resealed before coating.
Once preparation was complete, the roof received a full application of the Alltimes Advantage® 20 System, incorporating:
- Advantage Graphene Primer
- Advantage Adhesion Plus
- Advantage Sealant
- Advantage® 20 applied at 200 microns
This delivered a seamless protective barrier designed to safeguard the roof for the next 20 years.
