The Problem
The 2,500m² metal roof at Aldi's Watford store was showing significant signs of deterioration, with its existing coating system reaching the end of its service life.
Corrosion had developed around the mid laps and cut edges, while previous repairs using various materials were beginning to fail. Deteriorating sealant around rooflight details and ageing fixings also presented potential risks of water ingress.
Without intervention, the roof would continue to deteriorate, potentially leading to costly sheet replacement and significant disruption to the business below.
The challenge was to address the existing corrosion and vulnerable areas, restore the roof's protective performance and provide a long-term solution without the need for a complete roof replacement.
Numerous repairs had been carried out using various materials
How did we approach the challenge?
Working closely with Architectural Coating Solutions Ltd (ACS), Alltimes Coatings attended site to assess the roof's condition and understand the project's requirements.
Following the inspection, our technical team developed a detailed refurbishment specification, recommending the Advantage® Graphene Metal Roof Coating System, providing 30 years of warranted protection.
The specification focused on thorough surface preparation, treatment of cut edge corrosion, sealing of vulnerable overlaps and fixings, and addressing previous repairs before applying the protective coating.
Throughout the project, our Contractor Support team worked closely with ACS, providing technical guidance and practical advice to ensure the system was applied correctly and efficiently.
