The Problem

Cladding
  • The building is dockside, so is exposed to a lot of salt spray and strong weather conditions. The existing coating material had come to the end of its life and this was apparent by the amount of “chalking” from UV attack around the building, which is the first sign that the original material is starting to breakdown.
  • It was important to rectify this and carry out work before the sheets start to breakdown, causing further damage to the exterior and potentially interior of the building.
  • The client needed to continue to protect the building and also improve the aesthetic, especially in such a prevalent dockside area.

Metal Roof

  • The roof was also suffering from aging, but also the conditions of the environment.
  • Cut-edge-corrosion had set in to the overlaps of sheets as well as sheet ends and over fixings

How did we approach the challenge:

We attended a detailed site visit and inspection with the Associated British Ports Manager for the location. They needed to mobilise the job quickly. We approached our Approved Contractor, Architectural Coating Solutions (ACS) who were able to attend the site within a week and then start the job within two weeks. We gave guidance on the best system to use with the substrate and we put forward our recommendations for preparation and repairs prior to any application of materials.
