The industrial building at Denmore Road, Aberdeen required refurbishment to both the metal roof and external cladding prior to a new tenant taking it over.
The roof had aged to the point where cut edge corrosion was extensive, reaching approximately 75–120mm in affected areas. The level of deterioration meant coating alone wasn't appropriate across the entire roof, with some areas requiring more substantial remedial work.
Approximately 600m² of metal roofing required refurbishment, alongside around 300m² of external cladding.
The project therefore needed a solution that addressed the existing corrosion, replaced roof sheets where necessary and provided renewed long-term protection to both the roof and cladding.
How did we approach the challenge?
Working with Zander at Davidsons Painters, of Fraserburgh, Alltimes Coatings provided technical support throughout the refurbishment, including inspection of the completed works.
Preparation was particularly important given the extent of corrosion. The existing plastisol coating was prepared back to a sound, firmly adhered substrate, with the roof thoroughly cleaned before metal preparation began.
Cut edge corrosion treatment was carried out and new roof lights were installed where required, ensuring the underlying condition of the roof was addressed before the protective coating system was completed.
For the wider refurbishment, Advantage® 20 was selected for the metal roof and CladRenew® for the external cladding, with both systems providing a 10-year warranty on cladding and 20 years on the roof coating.
